Tyler and Trey Stewart, the father-son team behind the gay bar Mr. Misster in Dallas, is opening a second venue in Denver called Sir at 1822 Blake Street.
When What Now Denver spoke to Trey on Monday, he said the idea came as something of a COVID brainchild when he and a friend took a trip out to Colorado and he realized how much he loved it.
“There was such a great LGBTQ community in Denver, and I really wanted to add to it,” he says. “I just thought Denver would be a great addition to what we had going on in Dallas. It’s someplace we saw ourselves enjoying, and we split a lot of our time between Denver and Dallas.”
Although similar to what they already have in Dallas, Stewart says, “This is going to be like Mr. Misster’s big brother. We’re going to add the food element, which is something we don’t have in Dallas.”
Considering the food scene in Denver and the previous restaurant, Vesta, that held down the same address for 20 years, Stewart and his father didn’t want to miss an opportunity to enter into the Denver foodie scene.
“The food has been a new challenge for me, but my dad has been in the restaurant industry for years, so that helps.”
Support from his father in all aspects has been the most rewarding aspect for both of the bars and has strengthened their bond as both business partners and family.
As to the opening, Stewart says that, although facing a few setbacks in some construction plans, they hope for an October 2021 completion.
