Just Simply Shonda owner LaShonda Hinson started her catering business in Kansas, but after several visits to Denver, she and her family decided to make the move to offer Southern-style, homecooked meals to area residents.
“I noticed after I opened there, there wasn’t a lot of soul food opportunities here in Denver,” Hinson told What Now Denver. “So, I told my husband I think this would be a good place to come and get that going, and we just decided to make it this way and make it happen.”
Just Simply Shonda began offering catering services to Denver area residents this past October and will offer online ordering for pickup and delivery out of a commissary kitchen at 2000 S. Dahlia Street in Denver in January of 2022.
Just Simply Shonda offers a variety of dishes including chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, as well as fried catfish, pork chop, and chicken sandwiches.
Just Simply Shonda’s Simply Fries are a popular option offering a big portion of French fries with various toppings—Philly cheesesteak, nacho, barbacoa, buffalo chicken, and more. Daily specials such as fried chicken, mashed potatoes, greens, candied yams, and cornbread are also offered.
To satisfy a customer’s sweet tooth, desserts in a jar such as banana pudding and strawberry cheesecake can be enjoyed on the go. “They come in the original Mason jars with the lids on,” Hinson said. “You pop them open and eat them with a spoon.”
They are currently in the process of updating the website and social media with hours of operation. “I’ve noticed that late-night is a good thing, and so on weekends, we’ll stay open after-hours to do breakfast,” Hinson explained. “It will all still remain Southern-style.”
Hinson is now offering catering options and plans to participate in pop-up events around the area. “I’m a big fan of the carry out,” Hinson shared. She plans to open a food truck in the future.
