Potato doughnuts? Yes, please! Landline Doughnuts is currently renovating a building on Main Street in Longmont where owners John and Jodi Mowery will offer a variety of potato doughnuts.
Jodi Mowery told What Now Denver the potato doughnut is a cross between a cake and a raised doughnut. “It’s an old recipe from the 30s, and we replace a third of the flour with mashed potatoes. So, it’s still a sweet doughnut,” she explained. “It’s just got a really great texture, and they stay fresh longer.”
Landline Doughnuts have offered their tasty creations at farmers’ markets and popups for the past three years. The most popular doughnut is the brown butter glazed, and other flavors are available.
“We do a strawberry rhubarb pie doughnut. We grow our own rhubarb, and we buy local strawberries. We just try to keep things fresh, local, and seasonal,” Jodi said. Landline Doughnuts will also offer soft-serve ice cream and will feature a full espresso bar with OZO Coffee. “We’re also carrying Tractor beverages, which is an organic juice and lemonade.”
They are adding a commercial kitchen and sprinkler system to the building, which Jodi said is the oldest brick building in Longmont at 146-years-old. The interior of the doughnut shop will be decorated with old phones, paying homage to the restaurant’s name, Landline Doughnuts.
“It’s a nostalgic place,” Jodi said. “It hasn’t been a business where people would walk in and see it, so we’re excited about sharing the space with the community.”
They hope to open Landline Doughnuts at 321 Main St., Longmont, CO 80501 at the end of March 2022. “We’re excited about bringing a local hangout spot to the community.”
