Open may no longer be serving sandwiches at the Goosetown Tavern, but that doesn’t mean that owner Jake Riederer is finished making deli sandwiches for hungry customers. First reported in Westword, Open may have made its last Goosetown meals on December 15, but plans are in the works to open a deli counter in Denver’s Eastside Elyria-Swansea neighborhood.
Riederer told Westword that he’s leaving late bars to bring nutritious and price-accessible eats to the district that he labeled a “food desert.” The new concept will be different from a sit-down tavern, offering quick bites to go, so the food entrepreneur will need a slightly different approach than what Open took at Goosetown.
“Open sandwiches at Goosetown were more restaurant-focused where at a deli, the focus is on quicker, over the counter bites,” Riederer told What Now Denver. “We’ll just have to see what plays out.”
