Owner Giancarlo Scalzotto, who was born and raised in Italy, and his wife and co-owner Tonia Scalzotto, brought his mother’s recipes to Broomfield back in 2015 with the opening of Scalzotto Italian Restaurant at 88 Lamar St.

The Scalzottos are opening their second location tomorrow at 530 Cleveland Ave. in Loveland and have plans to move the original Broomfield restaurant a few miles down the road to Denver next summer.

“We have outgrown the location in Broomfield,” co-owner Tonia Scalzotto told What Now Denver. “We’re at reservation only now pretty much the majority of the week, so we really just can’t seat people anymore. So, we decided to expand.”

The current plan is to move the original 900 square-foot Broomfield restaurant into the nearly 5,000 square-foot space where Perkins Restaurant and Bakery once stood at 12015 Melody Dr., Denver, CO 80234 in the summer of 2022.

“We want to give people that feeling of going to a cool downtown location without having to travel downtown but also to give them an experience of what it would feel like to eat in a traditional trattoria in Italy, which is like a neighborhood restaurant,” Tonia said.

Scalzotto Italian Restaurant offers handcrafted pastas and scratch-made ingredients. Nothing is premade or frozen. “What’s the most unique about it is that it’s extremely authentic,” Tonia shared. One menu favorite is the pear and prosciutto ravioli. Other authentic Italian dishes include Gnocchi with Italian Sausage and Fettuccine Alla Bolognese.

For guests dining at Scalzotto Italian Restaurant, the evening is truly an experience. “If you go there on a Friday or Saturday night, a lot of times you’ll catch Giancarlo playing the accordion.” He often plays for anniversaries and birthdays. “Sometimes, he gets the whole restaurant singing. It’s a really good time,” Tonia said.

Plans are to offer live music at the new location in Westminster next summer. The Scalzottos would like to add another location in the future, possibly in the Lakewood/Arvada/Wheat Ridge area.
