Tasty Thai is adding a restaurant on Leetsdale Drive in Denver to serve the Hilltop area, Cherry Creek, Glendale, and other area neighborhoods.
Co-founder Jor Roon told What Now Denver that customer feedback showed diners loved the Tasty Thai fare but didn’t quite enjoy the drive, so they decided to expand.
“That’s a very centrally located spot. We have Tasty Thai Denver downtown, and then we also have Tasty Thai in Aurora, which is Bua traditional Thai cuisine,” Roon said. “So, the new Leetsdale area would be the middle piece between those two.”
That area is a special place for Roon. “It’s sentimental because I grew up around there. I actually went to George Washington High School.” The 19-year-old graduated in 2020 near the start of the COVID pandemic.
Roon and his family are no strangers to difficulties. “We were genocide survivors from Myanmar in the early 2000s.” Roon, his father, and mother, Aom Sor, also a founder of Tasty Thai, escaped to Thailand where they lived in a refugee camp for two years before immigrating to the U.S. in August 2005.
“We got here and didn’t speak a lick of English and navigated our way through the new environment, new country,” Roon explained. As a high school sophomore in 2018, Roon was taking advanced business courses, and he and his family decided to open their first Tasty Thai location. “Our company was founded on community, authenticity,” he shared.
Tasty Thai cuisine features noodles, curry, stir-fry dishes, and more. The Tasty Thai Special Noodles is a house-made dish that combines a stir-fry and noodle together. “So, if you don’t really know what you want to eat, that’s an all-in-one,” Roon said.
Several of their dishes, including the coconut soup, have been recognized by various magazines. Roon’s mother, Sor, was recognized as a Forbes Next 1000 Honoree in 2021.
Tasty Thai offers dine-in and delivery services through DoorDash, Grubhub, Uber Eats, and Postmates. The new location is expected to open at 6220 Leetsdale Dr., Denver, CO 80224 in April 2022.
