The Block’s original project transformed a previous loft apartment property into a compact, attractive warehouse distillery and tasting room (per Dalkita Architects). In 2017, owner Kraig Weaver joined with his (then) fiancee, Michelle Flake, and brother, Kameron Weaver, to create an all-in-one spirit production and sampling facility (according to Denverite). Milling, washing, distilling, and storing brewed batches on site, The Block specializes in several different types of gin, a vodka, a bourbon, and a coffee liqueur. These can be purchased by the bottled, sampled neat, on the rocks, or in one of the many cocktails whipped up by the Block’s bartenders.

In order to open the 75-person tasting room and patio, owners had to leap over several hurdles to convert into a spirits maker including code analyses, code upgrades, and sidewalk and entry improvements, all in coordination with municipal planners. Over the last five years, The Block has grown into an elegant and fun RiNo staple. Improvements include adding the permanent This Is a Waffle food truck this past September (per Westword), offering sweet and savory eats to imbibers.

No official timeline for The Block’s expansion has been set as owners did not respond to What Now for comment.
