The change was necessitated by a legal conflict with a Kansas City establishment, La Bodega Tapas & Lounge, which sent owner Cliff Blauvelt a cease-and-desist letter. That establishment claims to have trademarked the name “Bodega”.

The new name, Odie B’s, was chosen as its nod to the original branding, the running theme of the letter B in Blauvelt’s life, and his love for hip-hop and the Wu-Tang Clan. With the change comes a $10,000 project updating signs, menus, and marketing.

“Odie B’s is still a community-driven sandwich shop inspired by bodegas across the world. Odie B’s is still rowdy. And Odie B’s is absolutely for the people,” a recent message on the brand’s social media states.
