According to California State Northridge research, the ubiquitous international fast casual restaurant already features 181 restaurants in Colorado, good for about four restaurants per 100,000 people in the Centennial State.

Per store literature, the restaurant began in 1954 when Ray Kroc discovered a popular yet tiny burger restaurant in San Bernardino, California run by brothers Dick and Mac McDonald. “Fast food” was born when Kroc perfected the assembly line operation established by the McDonalds and began spreading the uniform concept throughout the country. Today, that’s translated into worldwide success “with more than 36,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries.” Investopedia asserts that this makes Mickey D’s the third-largest chain in the world. This includes $23.3 billion in revenue in 2022, good for a net income of $5.9 billion.

Post pandemic changes to the restaurant have been mixed, but McDonald’s is sticking with its new self-serve kiosks and AI-powered drive throughs. Time will tell what changes and updates will arrive with a possible new restaurant in Colorado Springs.
