The beautiful Colonial-revival-style mansion built in 1899, sitting on the north edge of Cheesman Park in Capitol Hill is set to live a new life. Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods (CHUN) is working with architecture firm Semple Brown to turn The Tears Macfarlane House into a cafe.

The house was built for for Daniel W. Tears in 1899 by the architectural firm of Varian and Sterner. “Some of the characteristics of the style that are exhibited by the house include the colonnaded portico, turned wood balustrades, Adamesque entry with the elliptical fanlight and sidelights, carved decorative garland panels and the flat arched brick window and door lintels with the carved urn detailing in stone,” according to CHUN’s official website.

Following renovations by Semple Brown, part of the historic house will be converted into an all-day cafe with outdoor seating in the form of a patio. The cafe is set to serve everything from coffee and pastries for breakfast to lunch, and a simple menu and wine for dinner.

We can’t wait to dine al fresco in one of Denver’s best examples of historical architecture.
