Fritay Haitian Cuisine Owner Farah-Jane JeanPierre has been sharing tastes of Haiti in Denver through her catering business, which officially opened in the summer of 2020.

JeanPierre worked in hospitality in New York and moved to Denver three years ago for a hotel opportunity. She was always searching for tastes from her home country of Haiti. “When I moved here, it was a shock for me not being able to find any Haitian restaurants,” JeanPierre told What Now Denver. “In New York, you find a Haitian restaurant on any corner.”

Family members began mentoring her in recipe creation, and she shared those recipes with friends. One friend suggested opening a food truck to bring Haitian fare to Denver. “It’s new, but I can’t wait to be on this journey.”

Fritay Haitian Cuisine’s Facebook page states Fritay is a type of Haitian street food that offers fried foods including fried plantains. JeanPierre said she uses “epis” in her dishes, which is a blend of herbs and spices traditionally used in Haitian cuisine. Menu items include malanga fritters and black mushroom rice.

JeanPierre says her food truck is ready to go, and she has plans to open to the public at the end of October or beginning of November after finalizing paperwork and permits.

Fritay Haitian Cuisine will have a permanent address near Aurora, but JeanPierre’s other goal is to offer Haitian fare at a few breweries each month to reach other areas of Denver.
