Rowdy Poppy, the queer, woman-owned and sustainably-grown micro floral farm and design house, announced the opening of a multipurpose studio in the RiNo Arts District this winter.

Founded in 2018 by Master Gardener Kim Zimmerman, Rowdy Poppy currently operates as both a micro flower farm and design studio curating blooms and bouquets. The micro-farm is currently housed on the premises of The Infinite Monkey Theorem (where classes and workshops are also held). As a member of ASCFG, sustainable flower farming is the ethos of Rowdy Poppy and the majority of their blooms are sourced from their own micro-farm during the growing season while partnering with other local flower farms and U.S. growers to round out the selection of flora. Since founding Rowdy Poppy, Kim and partner Michelle have utilized their personal home for all design and orders and are thrilled to open a public space for Rowdy Poppy at 3463 Walnut Street this winter.

Located just .3 miles from the current micro-farm, it was important that this new component of the business still be located within the community that helped support the success of Rowdy Poppy. With just a few blocks walk, the location allows for the team to transport flowers to the studio with a zero carbon footprint.

“Inspired by the elegant and rich sense of style that Rowdy Poppy already possesses, the space draws on both vintage finishes and classic colorways” said Shane Martin of Arrow B Architecture in a statement. The 1,605 square-foot space will house three sectors of the business:

Floral Design Studio: A place for Rowdy Poppy to bring the company’s field-to-vase practices to life. Expect arrangements that bring together inspiration from nature, community, and the unique lives of customers to create pieces that enrich life’s most important moments.

Workshop Space: One of the pillars of Rowdy Poppy is the importance of education and community. The new headquarters will allow for customers to engage with the space through hosted educational courses and programs including hands-on workshops and arrangement classes. 

Retail Destination: Rowdy Poppy will offer a retail component including sustainably-grown-and-sourced bouquets for everyday occasions, conscious wine selections, and small gifts from local, value-aligned companies.

“Having our own dedicated work and teaching space means we can offer more educational opportunities, host private gatherings, and step even more into the community,” said owner Kim Zimmerman. “Being a home-based and online business has been tough yet rewarding and we couldn’t have made it this far without incredible support from our neighbors, queer family, long time customers and other like-minded businesses. We are ecstatic to expand and hope to become the source for sustainable floristry and education in Denver.”

As part of the growth, the company recently debuted a new look and feel designed by local creative branding agency, Paper Laundry. “”The spirit of Rowdy Poppy is all about community growth — and flowers are a captivating representation of how people from all walks of life can come together, creating a beautiful arrangement,” said Ashlynn Haynes, Co-Owner + Creative Director of Paper Laundry. “In the spirit of Kim’s craft, every element of branding and interiors nods to hand-crafted design and people working together — from an ever-changing vase brand mark to exterior window elements that frame the workshops to passersby.”
